Townsville, situated on the coast of North Queensland 1200km north of Brisbane and 300km south of Cairns, is the major city of the region. It boasts restaurant strips with a wide variety of menu styles, shopping centres and cinema complexes, and has the full facilities of a major regional centre. It is also the home of James Cook University, renowned for its tropical medicine research and marine science studies.
At Townsville’s heart sits the sandstone bluff of Castle Hill, overlooking the city business district and the magnificent beaches and leisure areas of the Strand , our 3 kilometre beachfront esplanade.
We have extensive sporting facilities, with 3 major golf courses, including the oldest established championship course in Queensland , Townsville Golf Course (1893), with 36 holes. All courses welcome visitors. Major spectator sports include National league teams in Rugby League and men’s and ladies’ Basketball. The free bus to the Cowboys Rugby League home games stops nearby.
Tourist attractions also include the aquarium: ReefHQ which has the largest self-contained coral reef tank exibit in the southern hemisphere; the Billabong Sanctuary with its wide range of Australian birds, reptiles and mammals; and an Imax Theatre. A variety of parks and gardens such as the Palmetum and the historic Queens Gardens display magnificent tropical plants.

To the North we have the spectacular rainforest and waterfall regions of Paluma, Blencoe and Wallaman, offering stunning scenery and birdlife
East of Townsville lies the Coral Sea with its greatest treasure, the Great Barrier Reef . Snorkelling and Diving trips are easily organised by us to suit your requirements. Just 20 minutes by ferry takes you to Magnetic Island , offering bushwalking and wonderful beaches, and natural home to colonies of koalas and stone curlews.
To the West we have the picturesque Burdekin River , and the historic Goldfields of Charters Towers and Ravenswood, still functioning and thriving.
.To the South, the hills and beaches of Mount Elliott National Park are wonderful areas for a picnic. See wallabies, kangaroos, birds and perhaps a dingo in their native habitat.
